My small ass hometown of Thomasville, NC made national news with this touching story of a heroic lunchlady who is refusing to let kids go hungry during the summer by preparing and handing out lunch throughout the city. This video/article is a sad reality for what’s been going on in my town for years, and it’s crazy to see the place where I was raised struggling like this. Those apartments are right down the street from where I grew up. People always ask me how the fuck I “made it” (although I feel like I still have a long way to go, and haven’t made shit) from somewhere like this, and it’s a combination of hard work, luck, and people like Brenda Watford who sacrifice their time to try to do something positive for kids who come from a place where it’s far too easy to do something negative.
