Another gem from Thisismybrainondrugs.tumblr.com. Porcelain Unicorn (by Keegan Wilcox) Grand prize winner of the Philips Parallel Lines ‘Tell It Your Way’ international competition: Entrants in the Philips-sponsored constrained cinema competition ‘Tell It YourWay’ were restricted to just six lines of dialogue: “What is that?,” “It’s a unicorn,” “Never seen one up close before,” “Beautiful,” “Get away, get away,” and “I’m sorry.” Amazing. This competition has such a cool concept. Limitation breeds creativity. Some of the best films come out of Iran, they have a lot of limits on what they can and cannot produce and as a result it breeds and fosters creativity. I have always been a fan of limitations....some would call it censorship, but i have found that when you restrict yourself to something, greatness emerges. this may be a stretch but it also reminds me of a Rumi poem on fasting. when you restrict your eating and drinking by fasting, music flows: There’s hidden sweetness in the stomach’s emptiness. We are lutes, no more, no less. If the soundboxes stuffed full of anything, no music. If the brain and belly are burning clean with fasting, every moment a new song comes out of the fire. The fog clears, and new energy makes you run up the steps in front of you. Be emptier and cry like reed instruments cry. Emptier, write secrets with the reed pen. When you’re full of food and drink, Satan sits where your spirit should, an ugly metal statue in place of the Kaaba. When you fast, good habits gather like friends who want to help. Fasting is Solomon’s ring. Don’t give into some illusion and lose your power, but even if you have, if you’ve lost all will and control, they come back when you fast, like soldiers appearing out of the ground, pennants flying above them. A table descends to your tents, Jesus’ table. Expect to see it, when you fast, this tablespread with other food, better than the broth of cabbages. Rumi, Ghazal No. 1739 from the Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi I found these dope short films. One about colorblindness the other about physics (For those of you who don't know, Ishihara is color blindness test) I am not going to spoil it for you. Enjoy!
